Increase Your Revs - Your One Stop Pro Shop!

Do you want to improve your rev rate? If you call yourself a bowler, then you probably thought this was a rhetorical question. Increased rotation of the fingers helps the thumb exit out of the thumbhole faster. The fingers will be at the bottom or underneath the ball during the release.

In this video, Scott Pohl, owner of On Track Pro Shop, walks you through the stationary drill, which takes the rest of the approach out of the equation, allowing you to dissect just the release with this drill at the foul line.

  1. You must have proper ball fitting with correct finger and thumb pitches, if your hand is in the ball properly and it’s feels uncomfortable at the top of your backswing you will never be consistent or accurate. When I bowl my best I simply let the ball come off my hand naturally. Lately I have been really struggling due to getting older and issues with, Trigger finger, also known as stenosis tenosynovitis, it’s a disorder characterized by catching or locking of the involved finger in full or near full flexion, typically with force. I need to have my span and pitches changed again. So damn expensive for six balls.

  2. I used to work in a pro shop, and one of the things people asked me to do the most was to make their thumb hole bigger because they were hanging up.
I can tell you this, in most cases it wasn’t too tight , it was too loose. They were squeezing the ball, so of course they can’t get any revs on it. I’m amazed at how many people are just scared to put tape in the thumb hole, they don’t realize how much their thumbs change due to many factors like even their diet, (too much salt), can increase the thumb size. I always have my thumb hole drilled a little bigger, because all I have to do is modify it with tape to get that perfect feel.

  3. How can i increase my revs as a 2 hander? The only thing I’ve found is whipping the ball off my hand but i wondered if there was something better
