PBA Tour Season Is Underway

And just like that, the new 2019 PBA Tour Season is underway!

2019 is an exciting year for competitive bowlers and fans of competitive bowling. The new sponsors, FOX’s participation, and lengthened tour season has, in many ways, rejuvenated and reinvigorated bowlers and fans alike.

And if the first stop of the tour season is any indication of what is to come, we are in for a good one. The show had everything you wanted. Young talent. Fan favorites. Veterans who haven’t won recently. And some of the very best in the world going at it for the 2019 Hall of Fame Classic title.

I personally followed along all week, from the PTQ to the show. And I have to admit, this is the first time in a long time that I have been so heavily invested in a tournament.

Over the past several years, with shorter seasons, less TV finals, and less viewership, I will admit that I lost interest. I followed my friends from time-to-time, but aside from that, I didn’t really get into it. I am ashamed to say it, but it is true.

But not this past week. Not this season. Not this year.

No. I am excited. And I have been for several weeks now. Since the announcement of the schedule, I have been anticipating an awesome season, and I think my expectations may, in fact, be met — or even exceeded.

As for this week’s event, I have been following with equal excitement and anticipation. And I don’t think I am alone. In fact, I think I am a part of the majority. It seems like everyone that has come into the pro shop recently has shared in my excitement.

But the most exciting thing? The thing that I am enjoying seeing the most? Youth bowlers following along.

I talked to several of the bowlers that bowl in our youth program over the weekend and each one of them admitted to having followed along all week — the same way I followed along when I was their age.

They seemed just as excited and just as jubilant as I was when I was their age.

I have written it before, but after the first week and a half of the new tour season, I am even more certain: the 2019 PBA Season is going to spark a new generation of bowler. Bowling isn’t dying. In fact, I would argue this is the inception of the next generation.
